Greetings Willmore Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I hope that you have enjoyed your summer vacation with family and friends. We are excited to continue our successful Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion Academy in preschool, Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Kindergarten, and 1st grade this coming school year. We are also proud to announce that we will begin coding and computer science immersion for all of our TK-5th grade students this Fall as our "third language".
At Willmore Language Academy, we put the passion at the forefront of learning and we want to “build tomorrow’s leaders today”. Times are changing, and schools need to change with the times. Our children deserve to be empowered with the tools and skills that will help them navigate their global society. As a community, we prepare our students to be multilingual, mutliterate, and multicultural global citizens. This is why Willmore provides Spanish Dual Immersion and will be providing Computer Science Immersion to our students. They will learn computer programming and coding skills, which will help them to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills within engaging learning environments. These skills and increased confidence will benefit your children in any career they choose in the future. As we prepare for another amazing school year, I want to take this opportunity to welcome you and tell you a little about myself.
With experience as an educator in the Los Angeles Unified School District, I have served in a wide range of capacities, both inside and outside of the classroom. My years in education have given me the opportunity to work as an elementary classroom teacher, and a Mathematics Instructional Coach and Intervention Coordinator at both the elementary and secondary levels. Prior to this position, I served as the Assistant Principal at Meairs Elementary School in the Westminster School District. On a personal note, I am married and have two great children: my son is going into 5th grade and my daughter is going into 3rd grade. We enjoy traveling, playing/watching sports, and going to the beach as a family.
At Willmore, we set high expectations for all of our students, giving them the best instruction in a safe, supportive learning environment. We will continue to integrate technology in our classrooms to support 21st century learning with the district's 1:1 Chromebook initiative in grades 2-5. Our school implements the following technology components: ST MIND Math, Accelerated Reader, and Imagine Learning. We will continue to make Willmore Elementary School a place of educational excellence, where all children can be successful. Having a strong home-school connection is a key factor in building success at school. Family and community involvement are valued here at Willmore. I recognize the importance of effective communication and community partnerships to support our students.
I look forward to seeing you on our first day of school on Thursday, August 31st. Respect, Effort, and Pride (REP) and the Willmore Creed help to support the positive atmosphere here on campus, making Willmore a great place to be. Engagement and opportunity are at the forefront of learning as we strive to prepare our students to be multilingual, multiliterate, and multicultural global citizens. Students at Willmore will develop critical thinking skills, confidence, worldly connections, and a growth mindset in an engaging and motivating way to ensure their success in becoming tomorrow’s leaders today.
On behalf of the entire Willmore team, I look forward to working with you! Please continue to check our website for updates and important dates.
