Principal's Message

Greetings Willmore Families,

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year!  I hope that you have enjoyed your summer vacation with family and friends. We are proud to expand our successful Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion Academy in preschool, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), 1st grade, and 2nd grade this coming school year.  We are also excited to continue coding and computer science immersion for all of our TK-5th grade students as our "third language".

At Willmore Language Academy, we put the passion at the forefront of learning and we want to “build tomorrow’s leaders today”. Times are changing, and schools need to change with the times.  Our children deserve to be empowered with the tools and skills that will help them navigate their global society. As a community, we prepare our students to be multilingual, mutliterate, and multicultural global citizens. This is why Willmore provides Spanish Dual Immersion and will be providing Computer Science Immersion to our students. They will learn computer programming and coding skills, which will help them to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills within engaging learning environments.  These skills and increased confidence will benefit your children in any career they choose in the future. As we prepare for another amazing school year, I want to take this opportunity to welcome you and tell you a little about myself.

With experience as an educator in the Los Angeles Unified School District, I have served in a wide range of capacities, both inside and outside of the classroom.  My years in education have given me the opportunity to work as an elementary classroom teacher, and a Mathematics Instructional Coach and Intervention Coordinator at both the elementary and secondary levels.  Prior to this position, I served as the Assistant Principal at Meairs Elementary School in the Westminster School District.  On a personal note, I am married and have two great children:  my son is going into 6th grade and my daughter is going into 4th grade.  We enjoy traveling, playing/watching sports, and going to the beach as a family.

At Willmore, we set high expectations for all of our students, giving them the best instruction in a safe, supportive learning environment. We will continue to integrate technology in our classrooms to support 21st century learning with the district's 1:1 Chromebook initiative in grades 2-5.  Our school implements the following technology components:  ST MIND Math, Accelerated Reader, and Imagine Learning. We will continue to make the Willmore Language Academy a place of educational excellence, where all children can be successful. Having a strong home-school connection is a key factor in building success at school.  Family and community involvement are valued here at Willmore. I recognize the importance of effective communication and community partnerships to support our students.

I look forward to seeing you on our first day of school on Thursday, August 30th.  Respect, Effort, and Pride (REP) and the Willmore Creed help to support the positive atmosphere here on campus, making Willmore a great place to be. At Willmore we...
-engage students in our interconnected community, promoting respect, effort, and pride
-equip students with critical thinking skills across all curriculum areas incorporating languages, coding and digital literacies.
-empower all students as they explore their passions to be future-ready with options for college, career, and global leadership.

On behalf of the entire Willmore team, I look forward to working with you!  Please continue to check our website for updates and important dates.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nicole Jacobson
