On Friday, February 16th, Willmore brought together many community members to celebrate Tet, the Vietnamese lunar new year.
Willmore students and families were treated to a joyous assembly celebrating the Year of the Dog. To open the program, Chua Dieu Ngu Buddhist Temple priest Thay An Minh addressed Willmore students with an inspirational message. He urged students to do their best and to continue on the path of learning. "A better reader is a better leader," Minh proclaimed. Keeping with tradition, the Chua Dieu Ngu Temple brought gifts to our school and to each student in celebration of Tet. Westminster High School's Vietnamese American Culture Club (VACC) performed numerous dances and amazed the audience with their musical drums. The highlight was the famous Lion Dance during which students were able to feed the lion with "li xi," the lucky money inside traditional red envelopes.
Many thanks to classroom teacher Alice Wang and her aides, Tuyet Nguyen, and the many families who organized the Tet Celebration.
