Community Comes Together at the Willmore Tet Festival

Willmore students and families were treated to a wonderful assembly celebrating the Year of the Rooster.  Westminster High School's Vietnamese American Culture Club (VACC) performed numerous dances and amazed the audience with their musical drums.  The highlight was the famous Lion Dance during which students were able to feed the lion with "li xi," the lucky money inside traditional red envelopes.  The assembly also included Vietnamese songs sung by our very own Willmore Thunderbirds as well as a performance by parents from Willmore's Parenting Partners program.  A final dance by the toddlers from Orange County Kinderdance School, led by director Lily Vo, rounded out this joyous festival.
Willmore was honored to welcome a few special guests at this assembly.  Westminster School District's Superintendent Dr. Marian Kim-Phelps attended the show and was recognized by school principal Dr. Nicole Jacobson.  In addition, our community neighbors from the Dieu Ngu Temple brought gifts to our school and to each student in celebration of Tet.  Keeping with tradition, Dieu Ngu Temple priest Thay An Minh addressed Willmore students with a message of showing kindness to one another in 2017.
Many thanks to our Vietnamese liaison Tuyet Nguyen and classroom teacher Alice Wang who organized the Tet Festival and to all who participated in its success!
