Spanish Dual Immersion

Advantages of Dual Immersion

Our Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program:

  • Integrates native Spanish speaking and native English speaking students in the same classroom
  • Provides academic instruction through two languages, one of which is the primary language of each group of students
  • Increases levels of interest and engagement for all students
  • Develops the four C's: critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration
  • Provides opportunities for students to gain an interest in a growing industry
  • Helps students become multi-literate, multilingual, and multicultural
  • Utilizes 1:1 Chromebooks for all students
  • Promotes respect for self, family, school, and community
  • Builds leadership and self-confidence
  • Develops strong school and family partnerships
  • Equips students with skills to be more successful in a global economy

50:50 Instructional Model

In the 50:50 Dual Language Immersion (DLI) model, the target language of Spanish is used for 50% of the instructional time and English is used for 50% of the instructional time in all grades.

  • At each grade level, the amount of instruction in English and the target language of Spanish remain the same and is considered a "simultaneous literacy" model.
  • The 50:50 model requires a closely aligned curricular program where skills are built upon in each language rather than being re-taught in both languages.
  • The goals are bilingualism, biliteracy, multi-cultural competence, and achievement at or above grade level.
